Genki, I've hear that the second series can be watched without having ever seen the first.
How does the first end and how many time after those events the second begins?

hello
i watched the second one before first one ! in 2009 because i didn't know there was s1
the second has a nice drawing and coloring and events too ! the s1 is the opposite because it is so old 1970
but it has a nice events too
well, the beganing of the secon talking about the match between joe and rikishi toro who died in it but the details of it in the s1
and s1 longer than s 2 79 eps !
i think there isn't problem to watching s2 first

Thank you for your quick answer!
If I asked it's because the S2 is shorter and has been dubbed in french, I wanted to be sure.
I watch episode 1 from season 1 some monthes ago and like it.
As long as it's not SF, I don't mind watching old series with dated animation.
I especially loved GENSHI SHONEN RYU, a 22 episodes séries from 1971.
The time is prehistorical ages, It's a very violent and cruel story but wonderfully written.
We had it broadcasted in France in late 89 as "NOLAN" but I never find it on tape thereafter.
Hopefully, I find it recently subbed in english and I advice you to watch one or two épisodes that you can dowload here :

I hope you'll do it, it's worth the drive!
edit : few line lower on the same page, you have the complete Ashita no Joe 1 series to download in english subbed .
Really, try to watch Genshi Shonen Ryu!!!

Je viens de me faire 5 épisodes à la suite.
Voilà vraiment une série qui nous a manqué en 78/83...
