It´s correct.

The french sound has been slowed to match with the original japanese vidéo speed.

For someone like me who dream to see the japanese version with french subtiles for 20 years, it´s fantastic.

no i haven't but there is 2 franch versones 2012 and 2013

Those of 2013 have the Japanese version subtitled in French ! (pardon pour la traduction automatique! )

There is only one official version of Grendizer in DVD in France, the AB one

It has the full japanese video that you can either watch with an remixed, edited and slowed French audio (to match with the original longer version due to domestic edit 36 years ago and a différent standard speed between Pal and NTSC) or with the original Japanese audio.
All episodes are this way.
The overall quality makes me happy but some fans here think that with such a blockbuster, the AB company could have made a better effort to produce a result way more licked.
The first box was realeased last year and the sixth and last one few monthes ago. We're awaiting the collector box (all 6 boxes compiled into one) for few days but with no technical quality improvment.
Edit : The 1978 edition was just made to erase japanese name that appared onscreen (like the name of the beast) so it was no more than 4/5 seconds by épisode.


There is also a bootleg version that was intented to be an official one : The Déclic one that was released years ago, was quickly banned and is now an expensive item on Ebay.

The Déclic company though they had the rights for a DVD release and produced 3 boxes for the full series. But they were wrong, they hadn"t the rights to do this so the japanese owner of the series sued them and forced them to retire the 3 boxes.
Techincally the quality was below avegare as it was old TV masters that were used.
Artistically, it was frustrating because it was the multi-time edited version and the most violent scènes that we saw in France in 1978, 1983 and 1986 that were dropped in the most recent broacasts were not put back.
Edit : of course, it only had french audio and all the épisodes are this way.

The recently AB released blue-ray boxes have the same quality than the AB DVD boxes.

Absolutly no improvment in sound or vidéo. Ir was juste a transfert from one format to the other.
You have exactly the same thing onscreen, no difference.

Most people here think are unhappy and qualify AB as crooks.

i hope toi releasing blu ray for grendizer soon

Shouldn't it be for ten years...

AB own the french version and needs it for its cartoon network (MAngas) where it's broacasted again and again and again... I don't see them surrender it.
